How sessions work

Know what to expect, before you begin.

From the first booking to regular sessions, the practical details are kept clear so you can focus on the conversation.

Your first appointment

A clear route from booking to meeting.

1

Book a time and format

For an initial online or telephone consultation, or a Q&A, choose a time that works for you through the booking portal.

For a face-to-face consultation or a session for a child or teenager, please email Amber.

2

Complete the welcome information

Before your first session, you’ll receive a welcome email containing a few forms, including a GDPR form and working agreement, as well as the payment link for your initial consultation.

Please complete and return all forms at least 48 hours before your session. Your appointment will only be secured once payment has been received.

3

Meet for your first 50-minute session

Your first session gives us time to begin exploring what has brought you to therapy and what you would like support with, at a pace that feels comfortable for you. You can ask questions, learn more about how I work and get a sense of whether working together feels right.

4

Continue working together

After your first session, if you choose to continue, we’ll agree a regular weekly time that works for us both. Meeting consistently gives us the time and space to explore what has brought you to therapy and anything that emerges along the way, while allowing our therapeutic relationship to develop over time.

Choose how to meet

A comfortable way to meet, shaped around you.

There is no single right way to come to therapy. Face-to-face and online sessions are available to adults and to children and teenagers aged 8–17. Telephone sessions are available for adults.Choose the setting that gives you the best chance to feel private, present and comfortable.

Adults only: £70

Fees shown are for ongoing 50-minute sessions. The first 50-minute consultation is £80 for adults, whichever format you choose.

Adults can book an initial online or telephone consultation through the portal. For face-to-face therapy, or therapy for a child or teenager aged 8–17, please email Amber. If you have any accessibility needs, please include them in your email.

Remote sessions

Set yourself up for privacy and ease.

Online and telephone therapy offer the comfort and flexibility of meeting from a familiar space. To protect your privacy and help you speak openly, sessions need to take place in a private room where you won’t be overheard or interrupted. Headphones can offer extra privacy, but sessions cannot be held in shared or public places such as cafés, parks, buses or other public transport.

Once your forms and payment are complete, Amber will send your Microsoft Teams link or telephone details, along with helpful reminders by email and text.

If you’re joining from outside the UK, Amber may also confirm your time zone and location, as well as the support available locally in case of an emergency.

  • Stable internet or telephone signal
  • A private room where you won’t be overheard or interrupted
  • Headphones if that improves privacy
  • Notifications silenced to help you stay focused
  • Water and tissues within reach, if helpful
  • A fully charged device, with your charger nearby
  • A few quiet minutes to settle before your session and reflect afterwards
  • Local emergency details when overseas
